New Developments at DJ Associates February 2003 The big news to report is that I've moved the business to London. Here are my new contact details in full. I'm also ceasing trading as DJ Associates (my 'sole trader' identity) and working exclusively through DJ Alchemi Ltd. I'll be giving this site a long-overdue overhaul in the coming months. Just before the move, Seb Schmoller and I completed our work drafting the forthcoming British Standard, BS 8426, A Code of Practice for E-support in Electronic Learning Systems. This provides recommendations for supporting people doing e-learning, using automated processes and/or human tutors. BSI expect to be issuing this as a Draft for Public Comment in April, with a view to formalising the standard by the end of the year. Like most standards, I wouldn't say it's a real 'page-turner', but it was quite fun to write! Imaginary Evidence, the Forced Entertainment CD-ROM to which I contributed, is now pretty much complete, and should be available soon. Contact Forced Entertainment direct for more details. Here's a brief description by Tim Etchells:
That's Old News! August 2002 Developing the business of the Wired Workplace - the joint venture which DJ Associates helped create in the mid-90s - has absorbed a fair bit of time in recent months. David Jennings led the recruitment process for a Commercial Manager to grow this venture - now in post - and also managed the process of re-constituting the company and transferring the business to a new company, W2 Networking Ltd. This involved lots of 'fun', working with lawyers! David also led the Wired Workplace team which worked with PriceWaterhouseCoopers on developing an important telecommunications strategy for Sheffield City Centre (commissioned by regeneration agency SheffieldOne and Yorkshire Forward). The contract for the Department of Education and Skills' Small Business Online Forums has also been extended until 2003. Following on from a 2001 assignment, DJ Associates again formed part of a consortium led by FD Learning , developing a skills strategy - and the means to implement it - for e-business and creative industries sector. DJ Associates contribution was in designing a job/interview guarantee scheme, and this is included in the Commissioning Framework for spending some of the £millions of Objective One funding in South Yorkshire (sadly not available on the web in any place that Google can find). Other recent work includes
back to top Report on Online Learning Communities well received The action research we did on trialling the development of online "learning clusters" was written up in May, and has been widely disseminated. The report is available from the Marchmont Observatory for lifelong learning. It has been described on the Ufi-Lifelonglearning email discussion list as "recommended reading". The term "learning clusters" refers to communities of learners who share similar interests in learning, are able to learn from each others' experiences, and who are influenced by each others' opinions about the positive value of learning. DJA hosted and facilitated three email and web-based forums for this project, for individual and business-based learners across a range of contexts. back to top Multimedia work with Forced Entertainment Forced Entertainment is a group of artists who produce new works in theatre and performance as well as projects in digital media, video and installation. David Jennings has been invited to work with them on the development of an educational CD-ROM that will give a feel for the way the company goes about creating their work. The CD will include new QuickTimeVR panoramas as well as clips from shows and video clips where members of the company describe some of themes running through their work. back to top [Links - Online Publications - Latest News - Free Support] |
